Press Release 19 November 2007
Coming soon in the New Year, the re launch of a Christian magazine after 86 years!
Readers may have seen advertisements in this periodical for G.A.R.F. (Gospel Advocate Relief Fund), which was founded in 1878 to help needy ministers of the Gospel, their widows and dependants, and which is still actively engaged especially in helping pastors in situations where churches struggle to support them.
G.A.R.F. grew out of the "Gospel Advocate" magazine, first published in January 1869. Founded and edited by Mr A. J. Baxter, its aims were to promote a living unity amongst all lovers of the doctrines of Free and Sovereign Grace, with articles overwhelmingly devotional and edifying in nature, avoiding wherever possible the controversy and contention which often marred the rival journals of those days. Sadly, publication ceased in 1921.
After much prayer the G.A.R.F. Committee believed that the Gospel Advocate Relief Fund without a "Gospel Advocate" magazine was an anomaly which should be put right, and so the step of faith was taken to raise that which was laid so long in its grave, to the glory of God and the good of his People. With the same spirit which moved our forefathers, the "Gospel Advocate" seeks to speak to our present day and generation with a lively mix of articles, devotional, historical, topical and Scriptural.
